The project, a partnership between the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and Alberta Transportation, completes the more than 1,000 kilometres of four-laned highway from Grande Prairie to the Alberta-Montana border at Coutts, part of the CANAMEX Trade Corridor.
The accelerated twinning of Highway 63 was completed as part of the Alberta government’s commitment to building Alberta’s economic future and providing a transportation network that helps move goods across Alberta to local, national or international markets.
An existing bridge over Iron Creek, located approximately 8 km north of Lougheed, AB, had reached its service life. Alberta Transportation (AT) retained ARA Engineering to plan and design a 2-span precast concrete bridge to replace the existing 3 span bridge structure.
The project consisted of construction of a new alignment of Highway 727 as the existing alignment was sliding and was becoming impassible. The project included construction of a new alignment through two river valleys as well as upgrading other portions of the existing Highway 727 alignment.
This project involved the construction of overhead sign structures along Deerfoot Trail from south of the Douglasdale overpass to south of the Country Hills Boulevard overpass. The work included the supply and install of 14 overhead sign structures including concrete bases at each site and the removal and disposal of the existing mounted signs at each location.
Since 2010, ARA Engineering has been the Prime Consultant providing quality assurance testing for The City of Calgary’s Asphalt and Concrete Compliance Program.
